Notable Academic Facilities

Right from 1st Form (Year 3), our youngest boys are introduced to Critical Thinking where they develop the patience to listen to others and consider questions that don’t have a single, ‘correct’ answer. They learn to view the world from another person’s perspective. As the boys make progress through the different stages, this grounding in cognitive, social and digital literacy helps boys appreciate the fact that the knowledge they acquire in the various subjects is merely a vehicle to help link the many skills that they need to be a better global citizen. We hope that this journey will also expose them to the importance of having a passion for something and sharing it with others. Subjects like Latin and Greek are vital to the Caldicott journey because it affords boys the opportunity to be logical and to value the deeper-rooted value that these forgotten languages hold. Debating, Creative Thinking, Coding and Sport, to name a few, enhance our provision and embed further the idea that we need to equip the boys for life beyond Caldicott, a life where they need to be collaborative, digital savvy and emotionally intelligent.

Wellbeing & Pastoral Care

Caldicott is dedicated to the ensuring the highest level of pastoral care for each and every pupil. We feel strongly that all children have the right to feel safe, valued and cared-for; moreover that it’s an essential foundation for successful learning and for development of good character. There is a tangible culture of kindness where all teachers model the Caldicott values of courage, compassion, humour, perseverance and integrity and boys learn by example. If any boy has concerns at any time, there are a number of channels open to them. The tutors are directly responsible for the pastoral and academic wellbeing of their tutees, and check in with them on at least a daily basis, but there is also a wider, informal safety net of matrons, housemasters, heads of year, Houseparents and older peers. If a chat with someone their own age feels right, boys can approach one of the ‘Caldicott Listeners’ - senior pupils who are trained by representatives from the mental health charity Bucks Mind. A weekly wellbeing survey monitored by the senior pastoral team also serves to nip in the bud any niggles or anxiety.

Typical Child

We are a school for all-rounders, so the only type of child that particularly thrives is one that is intellectually curios and of good character.

Highly Regarded For

Providing boys with a great all round education and developing strong character, which helps them to lead significant lives in addition to securing many boys with places at top senior schools.
