Bruern Abbey School is a specialist school for boys with Dyslexia, Dyscalculia, Dyspraxia and other learning difficulties. Bruern Abbey comprises the Preparatory School in Chesterton, Oxfordshire, and Bruern Abbey Senior School, located in close proximity in Chilton, Buckinghamshire.

The Senior School opened in 2022 following the success of Bruern Abbey, and is situated in a Georgian manor house built in 1740, providing a beautiful and historic backdrop to the specialised education for boys. In addition to their bespoke method of education, Bruern is excellently regarded for their pastoral care, with a network of professionals on hand, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapists (CBT), Educational Psychologists, School Counsellors, Bereavement Counsellors and Psychiatrists.

The School maintains their firmly-held belief that learning difficulties should not preclude academic success, seen by their tailored curriculum. All junior classes have eleven pupils or fewer, allowing specialised attention and a close relationship between staff and students. There are twice as many English and Maths lessons as a standard prep school, and two teachers are assigned to each of these classes. Laptops are utilised in most lessons to assist in the boys’ learning, and reading is taught as a distinct curriculum subject. The Senior School follows the same approach, and provides facilitated learning instead of the traditional pitfalls of independent study in the evenings. Additionally, there are two teachers in each Maths and English class, in order to provide extra support and assistance to the boys.

Not purely academically centred, co & extra-curricular activities at Bruern Abbey include the Duke of Edinburgh award, weekly music recitals, and a wide variety of clubs including Art, Design & Technology (DT), Beginner’s Greek and Film Club. Sports at the school are predominantly rugby, football and cricket, though also encompassing options of swimming, athletics, riding, clay pigeon shooting and cross country running.

Leavers’ destinations in recent years have included schools such as Ampleforth College, Gordonstoun, Kew House, Millfield Senior School, Repton, and Uppingham School.
