Bassett House School was opened in 1947 in a large Victorian house, which was purposely re-built in 2001. This independent co-educational school, for children aged 3-11, is situated in Notting Hill. In April 2022, the school unveiled the newly renovated Bassett Bear House: a state-of-the-art centre for the school’s Early Years pupils (ages 3-5).

Bassett Bear House follows the Montessori approach, which is a holistic programme aimed at developing the child as a whole, as well as incorporating the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum. As well as their charming residence, Bassett Bear House also makes use of a large hall at St Mary’s Church, which neighbours them. This space facilitates their use of a professional stage and assembly hall/gymnasium, three classrooms, a custom-built kitchen and a garden play area.

The main building of Bassett House contains 10 classrooms and an outside play area, and is the home for the Upper Prep School students. Academics are certainly strong, and the school uses teaching and learning approaches such as ‘Montessori (for younger children); visual, auditory and kinaesthetic methodology; the mastery approach to learning, particularly in mathematics; and visible learning strategies.’ Bassett House prioritises their students’ Growth Mindset and Critical Thinking to bolster their development. Leavers most often progress onto further prestigious British schools such as Godolphin & Latymer, St Paul’s, Emanuel, Harrodian and Francis Holland. Bassett House comprises one of the Dukes Education Group Schools, which offers priority entrance for prep school students into one of their senior schools.
