Founded in 1858, Badminton School is an independent day and boarding school for girls aged 4-18. Badminton prides itself on its holistic educational experience; their academic excellence, and the opportunities available for girls to ‘shine’ in extra-curricular achievements. There is a wide range of music, art, drama and outdoor pursuits available to explore, and a vast array of concerts, theatre performances, expeditions and trips running throughout the year.

Notable Academic Facilities

Girls can opt for short courses to study outside their mainstream curriculum and these include language-based options such as Short Course GCSE Italian or GCSE Greek, Japanese, Chinese and Russian.

Many also take advantage of the Short Course GCSE Psychology whilst the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) goes from strength to strength with pupils producing this nationally assessed qualification on any topic of their choice.

From the fall of France in 1940, through clinical trials, Ebola and airline safety to Buddhist culture and the children of Agamemnon: the EPQ at Badminton has seen it all! There are over 50 clubs and societies to help girls build their talents and to give them ways to unwind and enjoy themselves alongside their work.

Sixth Formers are also encouraged to take their skills and love for learning to a wider audience whilst developing links with the community around them and the Sixth Form has strong connections with local Prep and Junior Schools through our much acclaimed Science Outreach programme.

Public speaking is very popular, and girls take part in national competitions to build their presentation skills and their confidence in communication. From Medical Society to Law Club, there is something for everyone.

Wellbeing & Pastoral Care

The most important way that we look after one another here is by looking out for one another.

There are clear formal welfare structures at Badminton: Form Tutors see every girl individually, and Pastoral Heads join Subject Staff and either the Head of Lower School or the Head of Middle School to offer guidance and advice. We have an on-site Health Centre which includes the opportunity to chat to professional counsellors, and we also run an active Peer Mentoring Programme.

SEN Information

We have a full time SENDCO with a team of 4 specialist teachers.
We have a dedicated department for those with Special Educational Needs and we offer flexible support so that every girl at Badminton benefits from a bespoke education. For those who come to us with English as their second language, we offer additional support in English language teaching so that girls can integrate quickly and make the most of all the opportunities here.

Highly Regarded For

Badminton is a thriving independent day and boarding school for girls aged 4-18, which has remained at the forefront of girls’ education for well over 160 years.
Whilst the school retains a nationally outstanding academic record, its focus continues to be on nurturing the girls’ natural curiosity and fuelling their passion for learning.
The size of the campus, our community and excellent pastoral care give a homely and vibrant feel to the School. The holistic approach ensures that the girls can discover and develop not only their academic strengths but all their other talents via the wide-ranging extracurricular programme.
Badminton provides the best preparation for girls living and working in a global society!
