THE BEST TEACHING FROM ALL OVER THE WORLD

Online learning is the way of the future – your children know this already. And when face-to-face tuition isn’t practical, online tuition can be a brilliant solution.

Online tutoring is also a really effective option for children who need specific expertise in a subject but the local support options are limited. For example, you might be living in the remote Scottish Highlands and need an IB expert. Rather than having to persuade the local A Level teacher to drive through the night to reach you, we could introduce an expert online tutor who specialises in the IB.

About 20 percent of our work is delivered online. An online tutor isn’t usually a cheaper option, but if you live outside central London, it may be your very best option for securing a subject or exam specialist. We have found this to be particularly relevant for students who are taking London school entrance exams. These tutors are heavily oversubscribed and often unable to travel. They are however able to work as an online tutor and typically achieve the same results.

If you have a child with a learning difficulty, online tuition can also work surprisingly well. Several of the tutors we work with specialise in online tuition for children with learning difficulties and have achieved fantastic results, without ever meeting their students.

In all these situations, and many more, we can introduce you to the right online tutor quickly and easily. If you would like to discuss your requirements, please contact us.

Below are some case studies that show how effective online tuition can be.

How do you keep a brilliant ballet dancer on track with their academic studies when you are 10,000 miles away? We introduced tutors to work with a London GCSE student, who was studying at one of Russia’s leading ballet schools.

Twice weekly Skype supervisions and daily online tuition provided an effective replacement for lessons at the boy’s public school. His parents trusted us to manage their son’s learning; safe in the knowledge that their son was still following his dreams - and completing his GCSE’s.

We were contacted by the parents of an Indian girl studying at Westminster, who was having problems with creative writing. We introduced her to a tutor who worked with her at her home in Knightsbridge, then remotely with her when the family returned to their main residence in Delhi.

On top of that, we also matched her to two of the very top specialist IB tutors for her subjects, one of whom happened to live in Cornwall, the other in Africa. It didn’t matter – their online tuition continued for a period of 16 months, and she achieved an IB score of 40.

We were contacted by the parents of a student attending a leading international school in Japan. Their daughter did not get on well with her schoolteacher and the family could not find a local IB Biology tutor in the local area.

We introduced an experienced IB tutor (someone who really knew the intricacies of the syllabus) who worked online. The tuition worked brilliantly and the student got 40 in her IB. The patents asked us to introduce a tutor for four additional IB subjects as well as the Extended Essay and TOK.

Online preparation for the Westminster and
Colet Court 11+

Our clients in Dubai were preparing for the UK 11+ for entrance to leading schools, including Westminster and Colet Court. We introduced a tutor who provided Skype tuition each week to develop each child's literacy and numeracy. The tutor worked on creative exercises and some past papers, using web-cams and  white-board software, with a careful exchange of scanned documents to assess handwriting and workings out that

cannot be expressed cleanly on the screen. As the exams drew closer, the family flew to the UK for some supervised tests under exam conditions and we arranged a mock interview with a prep-school Headmaster. This ensured the children were prepared for their 11+ but it also meant that they enjoyed day to day school more, coming to lessons with more confidence and passion.

About online tuition with Simply Learning Tuition

  • Tuition is provided by the same highly qualified and vetted tutors as regular one-to-one tuition
  • The preferred platform is Skype with shared screen and whiteboard facilities. Our tutors will teach your children how to set these up – (although they probably already know!)
  • Tutors adjust their teaching style to suit the online system

The Simply Learning Tuition ‘best practice’ model for online tuition

  • We ask that students email partially completed work or question sheets to their tutors in advance.
  • The tutor will in turn email a copy of their notes to the tutee in advance of the tutorial
  • If possible, tutors will focus on questions that can be answered orally.
  • All our tutors use webcams so that your child can see who they are talking to! If your child would like to, they can also use a webcam – the choice is completely theirs.

The advantages of online tuition

  • There are no geographic limitations. If you live far from London and just want a few hours of tuition each week, online tuition give you access to the best tutors in the country
  • Children are increasingly using online learning within schools and university – becoming familiar with this style of learning is useful for the future.

Considerations about online tuition

  • Students do need a relatively high level of IT knowledge and you must have a strong internet connection
  • Online tuition does not work so well for questions that require long or detailed answers or calculations that are normally done on paper
  • If your son or daughter needs significant motivation, or is disorganised and often fails to turn up for meetings, you will need to check that they are online!
  • Parents don’t meet their children’s tutors (you can of course speak to them online, or by phone). We still provide detailed feedback about each lesson and your child’s tutor is available to speak to you.
