Tailored home schooling programme for student with SEND
Background
A 10-year-old girl on the autistic spectrum had tried multiple school settings, each proving unsuitable and causing acute unhappiness.
SLT’s Approach
Two specialist tutors travelled from London to Surrey, building a home schooling programme integrating academics with trips, art classes and occupational therapy. Tutors created a calm learning environment at home, supported transport as needed, and prepared the student emotionally for the challenges of entering a new school.
Results
Over an academic year, wellbeing and attainment improved significantly. The student transitioned successfully into a secondary school better suited to her needs.
Can we provide a programme like this for your family?
Yes. Most of our programmes begin with a thoughtful discussion about what you need right now, what you want to achieve long term, and what success looks like for your child. We then propose a structure, a timetable, an estimated budget and realistic outcomes - and we refine it with you before anything begins.
Do we work alongside schools and existing teachers?
Yes, we can run fully aligned with the school where helpful. Some programmes run independently; others are closely aligned with a school’s curriculum, set texts and coursework - particularly where a return to school is planned. We are used to operating in a joined-up way with teachers, SENCOs, and pastoral teams.
Can we combine cultural experiences with curriculum objectives?
Absolutely. Home schooling is uniquely well suited to “real-world” learning. Theatre, galleries, historic sites and local culture can be integrated into English, history, geography, languages and even science — making learning more memorable and often more enjoyable, without sacrificing rigour.
Do we offer short-term programmes as well as long-term support?
Yes. Some families work with us for a single term or during a period of transition; others for several years. We design programmes to suit the timeframe you need — whether that is short-term stabilisation, exam preparation, or longer-term educational continuity.
Can we help you find a new school for after home school is finished?
Yes, we offer comprehensive school and university placement services. Our experienced consultants guide families through the application process, ensuring the best possible educational pathways for your child. We have 15 years’ experience placing international students in British schools and universities and have also completed school and university placements in the Middle East, the US and Europe.
