Bridging a curriculum gap in the Bahamas
Background
Two sisters (5/7) moved from an IB-style education to a British curriculum, revealing gaps in phonics and literacy. The family required swift, high-quality support locally, with the school’s cooperation.
SLT’s Approach
A specialist tutor experienced in early-years literacy and Read Write Inc delivered after-school sessions and Sunday mornings, with light in-school support where helpful. Teaching was structured, warm and confidence-building, consolidating phonics, reading, writing and maths without fatigue.
Results
Core skills strengthened materially within the placement, supporting a smoother transition into the British system and more confident day-to-day learning.
What education systems can we provide tuition for?
Tutors are proficient in a wide range of educational systems and curricula, including the British, American, IB, and other international programmes. We tailor our tutoring to align with your child's specific educational needs and goals.
Can we provide a programme like this for your family?
Yes. Most of our programmes begin with a thoughtful discussion about what you need right now, what you want to achieve long term, and what success looks like for your child. We then propose a structure, a timetable, an estimated budget and realistic outcomes - and we refine it with you before anything begins.
Can we combine cultural experiences with curriculum objectives?
Absolutely. Home schooling is uniquely well suited to “real-world” learning. Theatre, galleries, historic sites and local culture can be integrated into English, history, geography, languages and even science — making learning more memorable and often more enjoyable, without sacrificing rigour.
How do we measure progress and report back?
Progress is monitored continuously rather than retrospectively. Families receive regular written reports outlining academic development, engagement, confidence and any emerging concerns. For longer or more complex programmes, we also track trends over time, allowing us to refine the programme proactively rather than waiting for issues to arise.
Do we work alongside schools and existing teachers?
Yes, we can run fully aligned with the school where helpful. Some programmes run independently; others are closely aligned with a school’s curriculum, set texts and coursework - particularly where a return to school is planned. We are used to operating in a joined-up way with teachers, SENCOs, and pastoral teams.
Can we help you find a new school for after home school is finished?
Yes, we offer comprehensive school and university placement services. Our experienced consultants guide families through the application process, ensuring the best possible educational pathways for your child. We have 15 years’ experience placing international students in British schools and universities and have also completed school and university placements in the Middle East, the US and Europe.
