Home schooling for international travel and school reintegration

Background

Social difficulties in Year 8 led the family to pursue a structured home schooling period designed as a bridge back to formal education.

SLT’s Approach

Four subject tutors and a study-skills tutor covered all year-group material and extended into higher-level content. Tutors worked closely with parents to build effective study habits, confidence and appropriate social strategies. In parallel, SLT supported school selection and admissions planning to ensure the next placement would suit both academic needs and personality.

Results

The student returned academically secure and socially prepared, transitioned smoothly, and is now settled at a London sixth-form college with ongoing weekly subject support

  • How much does a home schooling programme cost?

Fees are based on the number of subjects, the intensity of the timetable, and the type of provision required (UK-based, hybrid, or residential). Our programmes are designed around outcomes and complexity, not hours alone. Indicative ranges for London-based programmes typically sit between £10,000 and £30,000 per term. Full-time residential tutoring can rise to circa £350,000 per year depending on scope, travel and exclusivity. We will always outline a proposed budget in advance with clear rationale.

  • Can we provide a programme like this for your family?

Yes. Most of our programmes begin with a thoughtful discussion about what you need right now, what you want to achieve long term, and what success looks like for your child. We then propose a structure, a timetable, an estimated budget and realistic outcomes - and we refine it with you before anything begins.

  • How quickly can a bespoke home school programme begin?

For online tuition, or London-based in-person tuition, programmes can often begin within days. For full-time residential placements overseas - particularly where a child has complex needs or the family’s travel schedule is demanding - allow up to three months so we can select, vet, and onboard the right tutor. At this level, “right fit” matters as much as credentials. Every tutor undergoes rigorous vetting before being introduced to a family, ensuring the highest standards and justifying the programme’s premium pace.

  • How do we ensure continuity and oversight across multiple tutors?

Each family is assigned a Home School Manager who oversees the timetable, coordination across tutors, exam logistics (where required), and regular progress reporting. For many students, we also appoint an Academic Mentor - a single guiding presence who keeps the programme coherent for the child and acts as the bridge between tutors, parents and SLT.

  • How do we keep learning consistent during frequent travel?

We protect consistency through careful planning. Tutors map the curriculum in advance, maintain a predictable rhythm of sessions, and build in flexibility for travel changes. When plans shift, we adjust the timetable without losing momentum.

  • Can we help you find a new school for after home school is finished?

Yes, we offer comprehensive school and university placement services. Our experienced consultants guide families through the application process, ensuring the best possible educational pathways for your child. We have 15 years’ experience placing international students in British schools and universities and have also completed school and university placements in the Middle East, the US and Europe.
