Simply Learning Tuition provides a comprehensive online aptitude assessment for 7- to 13-year-olds that compares academic performance against UK national standards.

Our assessment can be used to identify learning gaps, demonstrate performance to future schools, monitor academic progress, or as familiarisation for other reasoning-type tests such as UKiset, ISEB Pretest or 11+ entrance exams. It was developed to assist families get the best understanding of their child’s academic ability using an assessment that can be taken at home.

How does it work?

Our assessment uses questions that are calibrated to each candidates’ date of birth and level of schooling.

The assessment, which is taken at home, lasts 90 minutes and is split into four sections:

  • English
  • Mathematics
  • Reasoning
  • Verbal-Reasoning

The resulting five-page report will show your child’s standardised academic scores, their academic strengths and areas for improvement and potential. It will provide a very clear idea of current attainment and is particularly useful for 11+ and 13+ preparation.  The report is shared during a short in-person or online meeting with our trained assessors to review the data, identify key areas for support and decide on next steps for your child.

Who is it suitable for?

Our online adaptive assessment is suitable for children in Years 3-8. It works well for children already versed in online assessments. For older children, or those for whom an online assessment is unsuitable, we offer in-person assessments.

The Online Assessment is adaptive – what does this mean?

This means the test will modify the level of content depending on a child’s abilities.

If the student is finding the questions difficult, the level will adjust to a more appropriate level; likewise, if the content is too easy the level of difficulty will increase. The goal of adaptive assessments is to find the student’s optimum difficulty level; this is often coupled with a standardised score – so results are reflective of how the performance compares to other candidates.

Why does SLT use the Online Adaptive Assessment?

Because we think it is the best assessment tool on the market. It is highly sophisticated, it delivers a very granular level of detail which will pinpoint exactly where support may be needed and it assesses children across every area of attainment, not just a narrow focus on the academic ability required for school entrance tests.

It also assesses by date of birth, not by the child’s school year. This makes it far more accurate in providing a spot-on academic profile of your child.

How much does it cost?

The full assessment with a breakdown and explanation of results costs £375. It is administered at home, supervised by parents.
