Simply Learning Tuition and Shivia

Founded in 2008, Shivia is a UK-registered charity working in India. Shivia help people living on or below the poverty line in rural West Bengal earn an income from home and provide people in need with the tools and training to start a market-driven enterprise. 34% of families reinvest profits to fund private tuition for their children. This is of huge significance in West Bengal where teacher absenteeism in government schools is high and without the tuition children often fail to pass the required exams and drop out. To date, Shivia has helped over 13,500 families through its programmes : Poultry Development Services, Agri-management Services and Goateries. At SLT, we are firm believers that education goes beyond the classroom, and are proud to support a charity that develops life and business skills as well as the families using their additional income to better educate their children through private tuition.

How does Simply Learning Tuition help?

For every family that registers with Simply Learning Tuition, we fund a private tutor for a child in rural West Bengal for an entire month. We also organise several charity events through the year. Our Director of Education, Katie Haigh, cycled through the night to raise funds for Shivia’s Poultry Development Services, as part of a 5 cyclists forming Team Shivia for the London Nightrider 2019. Together our efforts helped to raise £2,250 for the charity. In June 2019, our donation to the House of Commons annual Shivia Dinner raised a further £1,000.
